We live in a culture and a society in need of healing, and our conversation turned to the sanctuary of Sundays, a day that seems to have lost its sacredness amidst our hectic schedules. As Daniel and I shared personal stories and theological insights, he illuminated the deep-seated yearnings for connection and the spiritual rejuvenation that can be found in the rhythms of the liturgy—reminding us that the Lord’s Day is more than obligation; it’s a foundation for a fulfilled life.
Daniel Fitzpatrick lives in New Orleans with his wife and four children. He is the author of the novels Only the Lover Sings and First Make Mad. His verse translation of the Divine Comedy, illustrated by Timothy Schmalz, was published in 2021 in honor of the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante’s death. He is the editor of Joie de Vivre, a journal of art, culture, and letters for South Louisiana, and he teaches English at Jesuit High School of New Orleans.
